President Trump's special envoy Paolo Zampolli has asked FIFA President Gianni Infantino to have Italy replace Iran at this year's World Cup. The Financial Times reported the plan is an effort to mend ties between Italy and the U.S. after Trump criticized Pope Leo XIV for speaking out against the war in Iran.
Infantino said last week Iran would "for sure" play in the U.S.-hosted tournament. Italy failed to qualify for the World Cup after losing a playoff last month.🏆
